Bowling Green Home Expo

Reporter: Morgan White

The Home Expo at the Sloan Convention Center just opened its doors at 5:00.

And, with the housing market on the decline, people are looking for ways to improve their existing homes.

Tammy Martin has lived in Bowling Green for more than 10 years.

She and her family are relocating in the spring, and the housing market is posing some major problems for the family.

"The fear of not selling our house, it's the ‘what ifs’. I mean it could be a year, it could be two years, it could be five years. You just don't," says Martin.

The website foreclosure.com has more than 900 listings for Kentucky foreclosures, and Martin says there are more than 100 homes in Bowling Green listed in the same price range as their house.

Those numbers don't ease Martin's mind any.

"The average time on the market is like 120 to 150 days. So, we're going on 30 days and not one person has looked at our home," Martin explains.

But professionals with the Builders Association of South Central Kentucky's Home Expo say there are other options.

"Just to stay at there home and make it as updated, [with] new fashions, and energy efficient, and comfortable to stay where they are," says Angie Fergueson.

This weekend's expo will showcase the best in both custom building and home renovation.

But for people like Martin who have no other option but to sell, this weekend's show won't help.

The pressure to sell is worrisome.

"When people say renovate, we can't. We just can't, so we have to sell. So, we have to do all these little extra things to actually make sure people are walking in the door," Martin says.

Whether you're selling your home or just sprucing it up for the spring, or even in the market to build, there are a lot of options at the Home Expo.

They have everything from windows and flooring, to landscaping, to decorating and design.

And, it will be here now through Sunday.
